Document type

It is a mandatory certificate for all cargo destined for Burundi.
The BSC must be processed before shipment and the assigned number must be shown on the Bill of Lading (B/L).

⚠️ Burundi is a landlocked country; The BSC is required for goods entering via Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) or other regional transit ports.

📌 Who should process the BSC?

The exporter or their agent/freight forwarder, using the information provided by the exporter and importer in Burundi.

📑 Documents necessary to obtain the BSC Burundi

  • Bill of Lading (B/L) – draft and final

  • Invoice commercial (indicating currency and country of origin)

  • Packing List

  • Freight invoice (if not included in the commercial invoice)

  • Document export customs clearance (DUA or equivalent of the country of origin)

  • Certificate of origin (if applicable)

  • Complete data of the importer in Burundi (commercial registration / NIF)

It must be processed before the ship’s departure and validated with the final B/L information.

Through agents authorized by the Burundais Office of Freight Forwarders (OBR) or their official representatives in the country of origin or in East Africa.
